CLIMATE CHANGE: SANT’ANNA SCHOOL RESEARCHER NAMED LEAD AUTHOR FOR 6th “INTERGOVERNMANTAL PANEL ON CLIMATE CHANGE” ASSESSMENT REPORT

Francesca Spagnuolo, a researcher in the Dirpolis (Law, Politics, Development) Institute at Sant’Anna School has been named Lead Author for the Interngovernmantal Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)Sixth Assessment Report” on the impact of climate change on water resources. The IPCC Working Group II (WG II) – on Impacts, Adaptation and Vulnerability evaluates risks, vulnerability and effects on health, economies and societies.

As part of the IPCC 6th Assessment Report, the study titled “Climate Change 2021: Impacts, Adaptation and Vulnerability” will support decision making in the context of risks related to climate change that can be reduced and managed through adaptation and mitigation.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is the leading international body for the assessment of climate change. It was established by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) in 1988 to provide the world with a clear scientific view on the current state of knowledge in climate change and its potential environmental and socio-economic impacts. As an intergovernmental body, the IPCC reviews and assesses the most recent scientific, technical and socio-economic information produced worldwide relevant to the understanding of climate change. The IPCC 6th Assessment Report assesses a large knowledge base of relevant scientific, technical, and socioeconomic literature.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate change has selected the author team from a pool of 800 experts. Overall, 15 of the selected experts come from Italian universities and research centers.
